20th Southgate Scout Group
Supporting the North London Hospice

All of the organisations who took an Owl have been asked to raise at least £1,000 for the amazing work of the North London Hospice by the end of the year. Our Cubs were all asked to get involved in the "£5 Charity Challenge" - they were each given a fiver and they needed to invest this to make more money back. This is very similar to the Parable of The Talents which features in the Gospel of Matthew 25:14-30.
It wasn't long before amazing stories were being shared of how our Cubs were getting involved in this Challenge. Many of them were using their £5 to purchase biscuit and cake ingredients and then selling the delicious home-made results to raise funds for the North London Hospice. Not forgetting our four-legged friends, Alfred and Martha made and then sold dog biscuits whilst bumblebees were in Seth's thinking when he made keyrings containing a sugar medicine to help sick or tired bees take flight again.
Some of our Cubs took part in car washing or guess the sweets in the jar challenges, whilst Feliks made bookmarks and Jasper created a hamper which was raffled off. Teddy created a home-made Elderflower Cordial made with sugar, elderflowers and lemons which was "better than beer"! These are just a few examples of the activities which took place and some pictures are shown below.

It is pretty humbling to report that, thanks to the amazing creativity shown by our Cubs and the generosity of everyone who supported them, an incredible £2,200 had been raised at the conclusion of the "£5 Charity Challenge".
We don't want to stop there though and have set a target of £3,000 to be raised by the end of the year. If you have enjoyed reading about the Cubs' work and would like to support the North London Hospice, please consider making a donation on our page at www.justgiving.com/page/twentieth-southgate-cubs-1719080620744
Between August and October The Grand Owl went on tour to Brent Cross and Wood Green shopping centres and also joined all the other Owls at Tottenham Hale. This generated some additional donations and we will be holding a Coffee Morning at St. Monica's on Sunday 8th December to push towards our target. Thank you for any support you can give and a huge well done again to all our Cubs for their efforts.
